Dear Iris,
I can hardly believe that August got by me and I never even
sent out my newsletter. WOW! I'd like to apologize. I have,
myself, been very busy, working on a rather large project.
I want to thank each and everyone of you for your ongoing
support and WELCOME new readers, who have joined the mailing
list. I hope you will find something useful in our monthly
newsletter. I welcome your comments and feedback.
| Reconnect: It's a good time to do
it! |

Fall is upon us. For many of us in sales, this is the
time of the year that our business shifts into
overdrive. Between now and the first of the year, this
is the busy season for many. What are you doing to 'gear
up'? This is the time of the year to review and assess.
This is a good time to contact ALL of your past and
future customers-- including those you did NOT get the
order from!! Just because you did not get the order,
doesn't mean your relationship should end. If you worked
on a project, which did not end in an order, that does
not mean you should just walk away, with your tail
between your legs. NO! You should continue to stay in
touch and cultivate a relationship with that prospect.
The order you lost, is not the only one he/she will
place.
This is also the best time to re-connect with all of
your past contacts. This gets you in front of them
again, whether they have an immediate need or not. It
allows you to re-build and re-establish your
relationship. It puts you on their mind, during their
busy season and into the new year. So, whatever the
situation, use this time to re- establish relationships
and remind clients and prospects that you are still
there-- ready and certainly willing-- to work with them
on any project which may arise!

| Where Can I Meet New
Clients? |
 |
|
Everywhere and anywhere! Golfers seem to know the
magic trick-- lots of deals are made on the golf course.
We can meet new clients almost anywhere. If you are
not involved in something, you need to get involved in
something. There are certainly plenty of things to get
involved in. Perhaps you like to bowl, maybe you like to
read:bowling leagues, book discussion groups, classes at
the community college, knitting circles and the list
goes on. Maybe you are passionate about helping
others. Whatever interests you, there is an organization
or group you can get involved in. This opens you up to
an entirely new group to connect with. Afterall, these
people are all working in some kind of business and they
all know other people as well.
I like to suggest
volunteer work. Not only does it help you meet an
entirely new circle of people, it helps our world be a
better place for everyone.
Aside from the volunteer work I do for my spiritual
community, I work as a community mediator. I was trained
in the facilitative style of conflict resolution--
better known as mediation.
I work in the
community to assist in resolving conflicts and disputes.
This can be almost any kind of situation. Cases are
referred by the State's Attorney's office; people come
in because they have neighborhood or family disputes;
landlord/tenant disputes; intimate relationship
disputes, child custody disputes. This work has not
only taught me a great deal about how to resolve
conflict for others as well as myself, it has broadened
my circle of connections. I have met some very
interesting and influential people from this experience.
I even received a speaking engagement because of it.
So, today, I urge you to make the time to
broaden your horizons and your circle of connections. Do
something different; you never know how much reward
there is in it and you just might increase your business
too!

Busy, Busy,
Busy |

Now is the time to be preparing yourself for the busy
season. Review notes from the last year-- what business
have you added; what order didn't you get? Are there
customers you haven't seen? Is there someone you should
call? Is there someone you need to visit? Are there
customers you plan to send holiday cards to? Is your
list in order? In other words, review and ready yourself
to connect with ALL of your past and future customers.
Chances are, if this is YOUR busy season, it's their
busy season too! |
